Calmira is not a DOS program, it is a win3.1x Shell which makes win3.1x look & feel like win9x...

to install Calmira:

1. enter Windows --> then goto File Manager & create a directory called Calmira on ur C: drive...

(if u followed the instructions given in the following posts Response Number 1, then i assume that u have unzipped calmi32.zip to a floppy disk...)

2. copy the contents of the floppy disk containing the Calmira files to the new Calmira directory that u just created...

3. use Notepad to edit the system.ini file located in ur Windows directory -->
Change the line shell=progman.exe to:
shell=c:\calmira\calmira.exe

4. Restart Windows...

sorry i meant to say: if u followed the instructions given in Responces 1 and 2...Specifically #2 where it says:

"I would reccomend using your zip program on the computer with internet access and extracting the files to a floppy. That way, you don't have to extract once you're on the Win 3.1 machine."

anyway if u run into any trouble post the problem here & i will try & help u out...

i had a similar problem, and after following your instructions, when i rebooted, i got the error message: cannot run progman.exe and returns to the c:/ prompt.
I changed the shell=c\:progman.exe to shell=c:\calmira.exe which is where the programme is, and i saved it before exiting.
Now i cant run windows. Even typing calmira at the prompt gives a bad command.
What went wrong?
The calmira programme is on the c:\ drive as CALMIRA
but i cannot access it.
Do i have to reinstall win 3.1 all over again?
Please help! (sorry John for taking over your board!)

even after setting Calmira as the shell, the command to enter windows is still WIN...so typing Calmira at the C: prompt will not load windows...

u should NOT have to reinstall windows...open the system.ini file using the DOS editor Edit.com...then change the shell back to program manager:
shell=progman.exe
save the changes then exit the DOS editor...now type WIN at the C: prompt & press ENTER...windows should start with program manager as the shell...

post back with ur results...

craig,

Your Calmira files should be in a directory called C:\CALMIRA if that is so then System.ini should read SHELL=C:\CALMIRA\CALMIRA.exe
not
SHELL=C:\CALMIRA.exe
as you had it!

thanks for your help!
i found that to run calmira i needed to type c:\calmira\calmira\data\calmira.exe
so i now know what to put in place of progman.exe for future reference.
Calmira loads fine but nothing works as i think i need a mouse to select anything.
SO i'll have to shop around for a mouse that fits!! my main mouse is the wrong connector. (need a rectangular connector) I'm ever so technical cant you tell?!!
Thanks again folks.
:o)

Hi Craig.

You should be able to just buy a converter for your mouse instead of buying a whole new mouse. I assume you have a PS/2 mouse (The round one). All you have to do is buy a little thing from Radio Shack for about $3 that converts your mouse from PS/2 (round) to Standard Serial (Rectangle).
