I know that i should have the spec's for the pc that modem will be installed on, I apologize for not having it. Basically I need a step by step on how to install a modem I am sure that it is not complicated, but I have not installed anything on a 3.1
OS.before. If anyone out there can help me I
would really appreciatte it.

First thing you have to know is you cannot install a winmodem in a 3.x machine because it is not supported. You need a physical modem (i.e. with it's own controler chip). Mine is ISA. Win 3.x also doesn't support Plug-n-play which means you will need to set the IRQ and COM PORT manually, using the JUMPERS on the modem card (i assume you were talking about an internal modem). Typically, modems use COM2 , IRQ3, but you can use any com port and irq (as long as the irq is not used by another device).

After you've set up the COM and IRQ on the card with the jumpers, simply insert in in your machine in any unused slot and make sure it is solidly in place.

All you have to do after that is go in the control pannel, clik on PORT, select the one you used and clik settings. Adjust the baud rate to the maximum setting, the rest should be default (data bits=8,parity=none,stop bits=1,flow control=0). Advanced setting should be default as well (if you used com2, irq3 and want to verify, clik advanced, base I/O port should read 02f8, interrupt=irq3).

You're ready. Close your computer and reboot, your modem is now active. You DON'T need a driver.
