Comment:
I got this old computer and im trying to tie up a spare 36X cd drive that I had. It works on my xp system. I set the hard drive to master and the cd drive to slave. Both of the are on the same cable so the hard drive is at the 1 end and the cd drive is in the middle The computer can find the hard drive but it cant find the cd how can i get it to work in win 3.1.

U can also send me an email at goaliemike@sympatico.ca

CD drives are not detected in older BIOS.

You need to setup the drive for DOS, using MSCDEX.EXE and either the specific or a generic CD driver. A common generic one is vide-cdd.sys

The procedure is outlined at PCGuide

Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go.

Here's another fairly generic one (IDE):

ftp://ftp.mitsumi.com/pub/drivers/ide158.exe

Best as I remember, it's pretty much self-installing...

There is a self-extracting WinImage here:

http://freespace.virgin.net/x86.computers/msdosw9x.htm

This will create a self-installing CD driver disk, instructions there as well.
