how to format a hard disk?

i have windows 3.11 in my p75. i need to format the hard disk in order to install win.95, however most of the commands i try in dos (version 7.00) get "bad command or file name" as a reply. in short, the command "format c:" doesn't work. can anyone help?

Use a Win95 or Win98 bootdisk! (http://www.bootdisk.com). Boot from the disk and then enter 'format c:'

If you're running Windows 3.1 or 3.11 on that Pentium then the hard drive is already formatted (otherwise you wouldn't have a "C" drive). Are you trying to wipe out your present Windows installation completely before installing 95? Which version of 95 are you installing? E-mail your reply to me, I'm only here by chance and might not come back anytime soon.

Pat just download a bootdisk as suggested by I386DX, format the drive and install win95.
