Closest utility you will find in a MS-DOS & Windows 3.1 setup is MSD.exe (Microsoft Diagnostic) which is not all that good when it comes to more modern PC's

MSD should be in your C:\DOS Directory

Or take a look at ~

http://motherboards.mbarron.net/download/

for some 3rd party utilities.

For DOS, I like to use Syschk

Under Windows there's the handy SAW (System Analyst for Windows)

The best one I found is HWInfo.

www.hwinfo.com

Dos and Windows.

CPU, RAM, HArd Disks, hardware (driver pending) .

I tried it on an older machine and it picks up stuff like SoundBlaster16 without the driver.

Glad to be of help trueno86

Both Syschk & HWinfo are on the http://motherboards.mbarron.net/download/
Page recommended in post 1!

As for SAW I agree with the statement on the page:

Most diagnostic utilities function best when the system is booted from floppy without memory managers loaded.

However I have used SAW with great success with Windows 3x in the past.
