Hi, again,

I finally managed to delete Norton Anti-Virus from the C:\NAV directory, but now when I turn on the computer, the Program Manager tells me: "Cannot find file 'C:\NAV\navtsrw.exe' specified in win.ini (or one of its components). Check to ensure . . ." It's an old, old version of NAV, and I just wanted to get rid of it because the Start-Up default had me going through NAV prompts.

Now, how do I get into Start-Up to tell it to stop looking for the above file/starting NAV?

Thanks to everyone who's given me help so far, and thanks to *you* in advance!

From file Manager go to C:\windows\Win.ini and copy that file to a temporary directory somewhere safe, even a floppy disk.

Then

From Program Manager go to FILE->RUN->type SYSEDIT in the run BOX. You will pull up several system files like AUTOEXEC.bat, CONFIG.sys, and also WIN.ini. All these files will be cascaded. Click on Win.ini to bring it forward.

Scroll down to the line referring to C:\NAV\navtsrw.exe.

You can delete that line or just type ; (semi-colon) in front of it, then save it and get out.

Then exit windows and restart windows and see if everthing is OK now.

If you accidentally really ball things up you have your spare copy of Win.ini in its original form to copy back into the C:\Windows directory.

You should have a file called autoexec.ND0
To return to windows as it was prior to installing NDW
Obviously backup your esisting autoexec.bat file
Then from DOS
copy autoexec.ND0 autoexec.bat

from http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q82/8/58.asp

This will help
