Hello,
I have an old 386/33 with 4MB ram and 120MB disk running Win 3.1. I want to run Win 3.11 Workgroup. Thanks to this site, I learned that I can download 3.11 from the Valiant-it.co.uk site. Also, learned from this site that I may need 8MB to run it? Is this true, and if so, where can I get the extra memory to go to 8MB or even more?
Thanks,
Harry

It'll run on 4 megs. Got given a 386Dx25-4megs with it on lol. But the more ram the better to a point. 8 megs is ok 16megs is real good, you notice a big speed difference.
The good thing about Wfw is its networking and stability conpared to plain old Win3.1.
You may want to try yard/garage sales and markets or swapmeets for second hand ram.
Happy hunting.
PS NewDeal Office would run real well on that beast.

4mb is O.K. for win 3.11 but 8-12mb is very
desireable if you like to surf the internet.
(sure you don`t like watching the f......
hourglass for minutes......!)
If you`d like to get more RAM (EDO for instance) check out E-BAY---I´m sure you`ll
find an offer that`s O.K. for you---even if
your looking for special RAM like the ones
for older NOtebooks-(I got an 8mb RAM-Card for my old NEC-Versa there for only 15 DM
---common price:about 80 DM)
(ahhhhmmm---by the way--I`ve got 4*4mb of EDO-RAM
to offer----but I think shipping cost will be more
than my actual price for the RAM----hhhmmmmm)

I found a 386 in a dumpster that was missing a hard drive. It has 4 mb's ram. I installed a 275 mb hard drive and transplanted the Windows 3.11 files from my laptop to the 386. It runs great! there are 7 files,
wn31us01.exe through wn31us07.exe
they are self extracting zip files. just type in the file name, let it unzip, and then type setup at the DOS prompt. It is easier than booting Windows 98.
I understand that you can run it on a 286 with as little as one mb of ram but it can't
run in 386 enhanced mode and there are a few other problems also, but I've never tried it.
