with win 3.1.. whats all the terminal stuff? i have to get a modem driver on a floppy from some company website? is it likely theyll have one for a 28000 bps modem?
how do i get dial up networking with 3.1?
i have opera 3.62 only and cant seem to install ie2.0 ..it just sits therewhats weird is i was able to read html files i had on a floppy in opera on the windows 3.1 computer for a few times but not now ,, i click on file and it does nothing,, everything seems bungled up

You might want to try a newer version of Internet Explorer that comes with a built-in dialer, such as 3.03 SP1 or 5.0. (5 would probably be slow on your system) IE's dialer should detect your modem, and IE3 will give you the option to install the dialer alone if you don't want the browser.
You can get this and other browsers from the Windows 3.1 Internet Tools page in the Win 3.1x section of my website.

ok thanks but since it has no cd rom i guess i cant do it
i guess i need to get on net with a one floppy type browser

dont you have a harddrive ? you can make a zip that splits every 1.4 meg and span it on the disks :)
IE5 for windows 3.1 is probably not 50Meg like its win9x version

whadd'ya need a cdrom for anyways?..just download the IE3 archive w/dialer as suggested, and split the zipfile up into floppy size parts to transfer to your PC and then rejoin them...theres lots of freeware apps that can do this (i like 'splitz', myself).
Then decompress and run install, and it'll automatically detect your modem during the install.
re: terminal..terminal isn't an WWW dialer...it dials ordinary phone numbers to things like B.B.S's (which is what the internet was once upon a time)
However, the internet as we know it today is a TCP-IP network , which is why you need a special internet dialer that understands that, instead of a standard phone dialer..
OK?

You can also install a stack and dialer only and continu to use your Opera browser.
For that I recommend Trunpet Winsock 2.0b, which fits on a floppy. It also takes less computer resources, but its more difficult to install than the IE dialer and stack....
I recommend Lightspeeds page where you can find many software (http://alturl.lightspeed.com) like Trumpet and perhaps even a floppy version of IE 3......

Lightspeed has 3.03 SP1 you can d/l and place on 4 floppies. I use it constantly.http://lightspeedref.web1000.com/main.html#Browsers
Skip

that has information..
i have the winsock and modem doctor ..
i guess i need to type some stuff in and install modem but i dont know if i can do it.
can you mute the modem for win 3.1?
