I recently installed two PNY 16MB EDO SIMMS in my Digital Starion 200i (pentium 75). The new memory was recognized and I ran the set-up utility, making sure I saved changes before closing. When it re-booted, i received the following error:
"Himem.sys has detected unreliable XMS memory at address 020121FCh. XMS driver not installed."
The config.sys help said to add "/numhandles=128" if extending RAM over 32MB, which I did. This had no effect however. When I take the SIMMS out, I have no problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated, my son is impatient to use his new learning software, which I cannot load until I upgrade my 8MB of RAM.

Hi Phil:
Since you have a Pentium 75mhz PC, I think the memory is not compatible. Think you need older simms made before EDO type, probably 70ns (nano seconds type). I believe that EDO memory is 60ns or faster, & your PC can't opperate that fast. The new PC 100 memory uses 8ns memory, so make sure you have the right type memory. One last thing is to make sure that the motherboard can recognize 40 megs (8 + 32 = 40), my 486 motherboard recognizes 32 megs, then 36 megs, then 48 megs, & 64 megs tops. You might need to remove the 8 megs to work also.Good luck.

I've had this laptop of mine for about 4-5 months. Nothing has gone wrong and now suddenly I am having problems where at bootup that it says it can't find himem.sys in the windows folder, this really bites. Can I get some help over here?
