when I boot my 350c IBM Laptop, it replies with missing himem.sys file etc etc.. This file is under windows and the config file seems to point in that direction. I tried reinstalling the Himen file but that doesn't seem to work... BUT when I shut down the pc and use the DOS 6.22 boot-disk I can load Windows?? How can I fix this??

I believe you have posted many threads here and on the DOS section. It would appear that your basic problem is MSDOS 6.22, Win3.1 sits on top so if it boots from floppy but not hard drive, you have a bad install. Personally I would completely wipe the hard with an utility like KILLDISK (evaluation version available).
Booting with a WIN98SE boot disk, fdisk and remove all partitions so you have a totally unformatted drive, reboot after exiting fdisk. Using fdisk again setup you hard drive with an active C partion, reboot with MSDOS6 Disk1 in floppy and it will format the drive etc then reboot and install. Once MSDOS is stable, install Win3.1! or email me?

Post your c:\config.sys
It's not too clear just what the status of your machine is - not much feedback from you in spite of responses to your various computer problems.
Do you not know how much ram is installed on the machine?
Does your machine boot to DOS at all? That would be the first priority in making Win31 run. You may very well need to start over - kind of hard to tell.
Reposting the same question isn't really necessary.

Yes jboy could not agree more that one thread would help solve myequation's problems.........and they do need sorting!

isn't himem.sys kinda supposed to be in your dos directory- mine is- my config.sys points to the one in dos, although ive got one iin windows too, thats only because windows 31 brings its own himem when you install it.
since dos loads first, if your himem loads with it, windows shouldnt have any problem finding it.
good luck!

Thank you everything is running now, But I do have one last request. Are there any links to drivers for VERY OLD IBM thinkpads.
This 350c is one of the first laptops and fiding drivers seemd hard, I have no audio and whenever I exit dos and go back to Windows my
screen seems to get pushed down an inch "black bar at top" is this caused by lack of proper display drivers?

Great to know you reinstalled everything OK.
If you go into DOS and at the C:\ prompt type MSD then hit enter it will give you some idea of the Graphics card. Type the details in a Google search or go to www.driversguide.com.
Have you tried IBM support ??
