I saw a modem/sound card at a thrift store which was old I think because I dont see them in any store. It had the modem & sound card on the same board. It was $10.00 but seeing that I dont know much about them can someone tell me a little more about them if you have any experience with them?

1. try to find out about the card with whats written on the board or chips.

or

2. plug it in your pc, then use hardware detectors or 'snooper' programs.

or

3. for the modem part: plug it in, use a terminal/comm program, the issu the following command in the terminal window:

ATI?

where ?=1 to 12

this will ID the modem.

or

4. use win 9x to autodetect.

I have one of those old cards. It was given to me. No driver of course!!

The sound card part is: Aztech. I downloaded drivers for that but without the modem it won't work.

The modem, I can't find a make on that 1/2 of it. I have seen 33.8 marked on some of the little silver components on it.

Now I did ask someone about this. He said that there was some thing about some kind of proprietary on card leads or jumpers that go from one side of the board to the other, or something to that effect, but without those leads and knowing how and what to set them at, it just ain't no good.

So anyway, saw this post and thought I would add what I know about it so it may help you.

Thanks for the great responses. I guess I wont be buying it. Seems to be more trouble than it's worth.
