In dos, run c:\windows\setup. You can change your display sizes there.

Thanks, but I tryed that, did not help.
Changed the display adaptor to 1024x768x256 with small fonts (as on another working computer) it did not help too. I even copied the entire WINDOWS directory from identical computer and even that had no effect! Maybe it has something to do with the fonts?

I read once in "Upgrading and Repairing PCs, 12th Edition" (but wasn't able to find the exact place where this is), that there are some monitors (LCD?) that advertise that they can display a certain resolution, but can only display a lower resolution. For example, a monitor that is advertised to display 1280x1024 may be able to display only 1024x768. What the manufacture did is that there is two images, one on the monitor, and one in the Video RAM. The driver is written so that even though the monitor is physically incapable of displaying that real resolution, it will display the portion of the the real resolution image that the mouse is in (ie. moving the mouse will change the displayed portion of the image, though the real image stays the same).

There is really no remedy for this problem, except to change the monitor.

And by the way, I am not sure wether the problem is in the monitor or the video card, though I suspect that it's in the monitor (supposedly a LCD, since they are very expensive to make with high resolution). After i find the part in the book that talks about it, maybe i can give you more information.

I almost forgot. Try tuning down the resolution (ex. 800x600), you might at least see the whole screen.

640x480 could also be a possibility
