Comment: Help! I need a version of DOS to install on my old 386, so I can install Windows 3.1. I have already setup PC-DOS 7, but it makes my computer freeze when I get the "Starting PC-DOS" dialogue. When I try to setup IBM Personal Computer DOS 3.30 I get "Format Failure" when I try to set it up. When I try to set up MS-DOS 6.22 my computer freezes after I hit Enter to start setup. Please Someone help me! Thanks.

Reply: (edit)Try FreeDOS Beta 8 or DR-DOS 7.03. DR-DOS is free for non-commercial use, and FreeDOS is GPL (free and open source). Both are very compatible with MS-DOS. I do not say completely, because only MS-DOS is compatible with MS DOS. Out of the two, I prefer FreeDOS Beta 8. Even though FreeDOS is still in the beta stages, it is a very stable and usable DOS OS. It will run WFW 3.11

Reply: (edit)me too, I know where to get every PC DOS, MS-DOS, DR-DOS, FreeDOS, and Open DOS. I didnt post them because JW will remove the post if I tell where to get them. FreeDOS, and DR-DOS is freely available on the net from the creators, so that dosent qualify as piracy. That's why I posted those.
