Comment: i have a 486 laptop wich somehow i messed up and lost the hard drive and when i boot it up it only says insert boot up disk or system disk someting like that HELP ME PLEASE!!!

Reply: (edit)You have to install win 3.1 on top of DOS. You can got to www.bootdisk.com and download a Win 3.1 or a DOS boot disk from there, but if you really messed up the hard drive, then re-install DOS 6.22 then Windows 3.1

Reply: (edit)Don't format! (Just in case you were going to...) With the first disk of the 6.22 set in the drive, after bootign, try using the command "sys c:" from the DOS prompt. This will load the boot files and command.com. Then reboot. If that fails, then do a full DOS install. First save your config.sys and autoexec.bat files so that you can restore them after DOS has reloaded and possibly overwritten them. Then reboot. Good luck & may the force be with you!
