In trying to install a 2nd Hard-Drive I must have messed up something so I undid everything. Now, when I switch on I get the following message: "HDD Controllers fail. Press F1 to resume." At the A:> I type: Format c: and get a message: "Bad command or file name." In fact whatever I type I get this same message. Somehow I think my HD is not working. Help please!

Hi,
It could be any one of a number of things unfortunately. Make sure that your Primary HDD is jumpered appropriately, is connected to a power jack, and that it's connected to the IDE cable too. The IDE cable connection to the MOBO, or HDD CTL card, whatever you're using, should be examined as well. Check to see if your BIOS battery is seated properly, sometimes they get knocked loose during "reconstruction" efforts, giving your computer a case of amnesia. Get into your BIOS settings and determine if it's setup to read your HDDs drive parameters right, either by using AUTO DETECT or typing in the CHS info manually. Goods luck!

Hi George, thanx for responding to my query. I'm not au fait with Win 3.1 so here are a few questions.
1. I have identified the settings indications on the HD but where do I find them?
2. How do I get into my BIOS?
There was nothing wrong with the puter untill I tried to install a 2nd HD so I presume the settings should all be ok. I notice my BIOS date as being 1993 so it probably needs an update. How do I go about that?
Your advice or anybody's for that matter, sincerely appreciated
Compared to Win 98 this is jurassic!
