Anyone own a GA586AP mobo?? Or other (ga586xx) mobo?
I am having a problem Flashing the BIOs. The flash utilities all give me the diolog box that says "The Flash Part is not Supported".
A tech @Gigabyte told me that the BIOs is locked and to check my manual. I can't seem to find any jumpers or info on how to unlock the BIOs. There are no jumpers for unlocking or reseting the BIOs on the board...am I blind?
The board has a Benchmarc RTC battery/clock which I think is giving me y2k date problem...I set the date for 2001 and it always boots as 2094. BLAH!
I am trying to get this board up to par...it seems to run well overall...Thanks!

Hi Industinctus:
Try this address for motherboard info.http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/support/user_pdf/5ap_9502.pdf
Page 12 for jumper settings.
Also try setting bios to default settings inside bios, last thing is to remove motherboard battery for bios to hopefully reset to default.
Hope this helps, good luck.
Z

Thanks Z Furman, but this post is for a last minute solution before I take more drastic measures.
I always start w/the manufacturers site to download manuals/specs/drivers/ROMS. Hell, thats half the fun!...Learning what you got!The PDF doc. you mention has all the jumper settings and as you can see, there is no mention of a CMOS/BIOs switch/jumper. I have had trouble finding the CMOS jumper on a board or two, but they are always(?) there. So this board is an exception.(?)
The battery solution is great, except that this board has a RTC/battery. I did find a pin diagram online where someone pulled the RTC apart and disconnected the crystal from the battery and soldered in a CR2032 type battery. http://www.geocities.com/markuskauer/rtc.htmlAlso, the RTC is the cause of Y2K problems with boards like this...as I understand.(?) If anyone could confirm this and maybe give some tips on how they got around it...? That would be cool.
Someone here must know someone who knows someone that has a cousin that owns one of these boards!?.....LOL! Well, its worth a try.
Thanks!

Hi again Industinctus:
Maybe these addresses might help about RTC problems, I never had a motherboard with one of those RTCs, so don't know what you can do.http://www.natusmed.com/support/algo_screen/clock.html
http://www.lanyoncomputers.com.au/corner/post.asp?msg=1340
Also in PDF doc page 16 (3.7) says that the RTC has a 10 year life (max I guess) & should be replaced with exact brand & type as old unit.
Good luck.
Z

Z thanks for the links. I think I'll put this one to the side until I have the time to play w/it more or if Gigabyte support would fill me with insight and answers.
I just pulled the RTC unit off and it will not be easy to get at the battery. The entire unit comes off the board and its casing is glued directly to the chip...including the pins. BLAH! This is a stupid design...glad it did not become a widely used standard. Again, I must remind myself that I have very little idea what I'm doing here...what else is new?...I will start the board up again when I can clear some space in this sh@# hole I live in to see if the CMOS cleared.
Hey! Thanks for the time and company!
Keep the Legacy alive and working!
