i have an old pc with windows 3.11 and need to update it to windows 95. unfortunately i don't have an cd-drive nor net-access. so i downloaded 'windows 95 service pack 1 disk set' from www.microsoft.com, but i can't run the w95setup.exe on the first disk. the pc responds with 'can't run in dos mode'.

Dana, if u click HERE then u'll get instructions on HowTo Backup win95 CD to floppies...Bob B has helped out alot of chefs with this page...
or if u can get some1 2 load the cd 2 a HDD...u can slave it & run setup from there...
if u goto ur local computer shop u should be able 2 find a 2x-4x cd drive 4 about $5.00 US...
& lastly there is always (DCC) Direct Cable Connection...
i have some other ideas that i have tested & used...but there alittle unorthodox...if not done correctly ur puter may crash 2 a point of no return...
i'm alittle confused with something wrote...but rather than asking u 2 clarify let me just comment by saying...win95 service pack 1 is an add on 4 win95 original (not OSR2) after installing SP1 ur version will now b win95a...
u may need a win95 bootdisk in order 2 proceed with the install...

why would you think the windows 95 service pack would work under windows 3.11?
you have to be running windows 95 to run the service pack.
the disk set you downloaded, is not windows 95, its just the updates.
you can't download windows 95 from microsoft, if thats what you were thinking.

I'm sick of this thing about making floppy disks sets of '95 from the CD. It is to much trouble. Download Windows 95A floppy version. Do a search of it on this site!

Just get a cheap Zip Drive off ebay thats uses lpt1 port and copy the needed files onto it and install it from dos
