Comment:

I need to re format my c: drive from a dos prompt and I have tried to use every command i know from format c: to fdisk. These are early machienes with early versions of DOS.

If I could avoid reformatting the drive i would, however, I don't know of any other way to solve the problem of 3.11 stalling as it loads. The start screen window pops up saying "windows for workgroups 3.11" and stops loading.

if someone has some suggestions... please email me(tiger@Jumpinghorse.net) thanks.

go to www.bootdisk.com and download the boot disk for 3.11. Boot your PC from the bootdisk floppy and then format.

Insert a blank floppy disk,
From the DOS prompt type
FORMAT A: \S
Then copy FORMAT.COM onto it.
Turn of your PC
Turn it back on to boot up,

I don't know what version of DOS that you have, but before loosing your work, try this.
Type memmaker at the C:\ prompt. If nothing
happens, try editing your config.sys. Add or
be sure that the lines DOS=HIGH and DOS=UMB
are entered. Reboot your computer to see if
this helps. It sounds like you don't have
enough conventional memory to load windows
