I'm updating from an old computer running on Windows for worgroups 3.11 to a new laptop running Windows XP. I have a parallel cable. Is there a way to transfer all my personal files from the old to the new computer?

email to yourself using winzip all the files that you want to transfer. Then download them again using your windows xp system.
I think laplink works with parallel cables, but I am not sure if it works with windows xp.

Use Laplink but your gonna need an older version since its WFW 3.11. I would use DOS Laplink. It should work. If use Laplink 5 or 6 for Windows you might have problems because XP is NTFS. Parrallel cables will work. And serial in DOS and Windows laplink versions

The file systen,Ntfs or fat has nothing to do with whether you can transfer files or not. The sort answer is yes you can. Via the win 3.1 terminal and hyperterminal in Xp. Just make sure the terminal settings are the same and bios settings for the parralel ports are both set the same.

Thanks for your answer. I haven't tried Laplink yet, but the MS-DOS utility interlnk/intersvr doesn't seem to run on Windows XP. Any reason to think Laplink will work better?
