Although I have never seen this specific error, it seems very similar to the error I used to get on my Olivetti. All that I had to do was change the little battery on the motherboard. This powers ur bios and cmos. You might want to check that, but someone else probably has better info.

I have a Prolinea 575E(my little bro uses it for home work). The "bios" on this pc is not stored on a chip on the mobo.It is on a hidden partition on the hard drive. If you replace the hard drive you must recreat this partion and reinstall the software.I have never done this but ran across it on the web site.(go to Hewlett Packard since they now own compaq.I belive the original compaq site is still accesible from there).the message usualy come up when you change something on your machine. This can be anything from the amount of ram to a cd drive or any outher hardware. If I remember right you had to hit F1 to access to set up menue wich is very basic and just confirms the new hardware profile.

battery replaced, F1,F10 and delete keys
don't bring up setings.

It comes up stating hard drive not
detected, settings updated, f1 to save
f2 to not save.

What do I do?
I have been savings the settings and then trying
to boot off a floppy boot disk for DOS 6.21 no luck.

I have read that when the cursor goes to the upper right hand side of the screen hit F1 for F10 or the delete key to get into CMOS.

Well the cursor never goes to the right hand side. The computer does ram check then gives the error 162.

Any ideas?
