oh, great. more problems. this morning, i booted up 3.1, and right after the logo loaded, it said this:
PROGMAN caused a General Protection Fault in module KRNL386.exe at 0001:93AC
When I click Close, it exits back to DOS, but DOS wouldnt even respond!
What do I do?
Oh, and please respond to the GDI problem in my first "emulated 3.1" post here, to reduce the confusion. thanks.

If anyone knows, I'm sure they'll respond.
Bear in mind that the difficulties you're experiencing are more likely related to the emulator or else hardware incompatibility and not, per se, Win31
The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing..if you can fake that, you've got it made.

Yeah - I'll try and do that

Andy,
I like your style.
After reading hundres of dumb msgs which are neither clear nor entertaining, yours is refreshing.
That's the good news.
The bad news is I know nothing about emulation.

Mechanix2Go-
Try to imagine that I'm running 3.1 and that the emulation has NOTHING to do with it. I simply said I'm emulating 3.1 so everyone could know that I'm not running 3.1 on a 3.0gHz, 80GB HD. That's all. But try, I mean, t-r-y to imagine I'm simply running a piece of 3.1 which won't work.
Thanks =)

The easiest sollution to the problem is problably reinstalling Windows 3.1 from scratch, if possible (Backup First). Which emulator are you using (Bochs x86 or Virtual PC). I haven't had a problem on any of these emulators, but early Bochs and Windows 3.1 had several problems. Also, with some comfiguations (Qemu Emulator with Windows 3.1 running in 386 enhanced mode with SoundBlaster Drivers), the system will NOT respond. There is probably a error when you added a new driver in Windows or something or added a device in Config.sys which now casues a memory error. I would reinstall if possible or change your hardware configuration on the emulator (Or Both). Sometimes, Windows 3.1 crashes if a different DOS is detected (Happened in FreeDOS).
Hope you fix your problem =).

Well,
you also could wait for later DOSBox releases later than the 0.63, I tried my WFWG 3.11 in enhanced mode with 0.62 and it worked fine unlike the sound and the mouse. I think the programers would fix these problems in later versions.
Try it, to your problems: The progman error occurs because of a memory fault by VirtualPC. You should use VMware 4.5.2 or later (5.0 Beta e.g.) and check your 3.11 for viruses, theese damn beasts destroyed my 3.11 original diskettes ^_^
And the GDI, that's hard to describe. Use VMware and let's see how it works ...Regards - SiyMan
