Hi Everyone:

Does anyone know if it is possible to play a standard DVD using an Internal Combo CD-DVD Drive in Windows 3.1? I can read data files off the DVD with no problem...I need I guess a 16-bit version of a software DVD player, if they exist (maybe an early Hero DVD or XING DVD player?) I have already read Gaby's page on DVD Adventures with Win 3.1...Gaby got to the same place I did, just reading data files. Any chance of playing DVD movies (I already have XINGMPG player for Video CDs)

Hello Again:

I guess I should introduce myself, too. I've been reading the forums a few years, as I often help people fix up old computers at my school (I'm a physics teacher there). I am very pleased with this Windows 3.1 machine (with Calmira)that I built...it seems to be able to do EVERYTHING a modern computer can do (Office, Word, Netscape, Email, MP3 playback on WinPlay, Vide CD and MPEG playing on XING MPEG Player, and so forth). About the only thing I can't seem to make it do is play a standard DVD, so I thought I'd ask here. Thanks again.

I don't think there are any Win 3.1 dvd players out there. Just a few months ago I was looking for a DVD player that would work on an old Win 3.11 machine of mine. It seems that even the oldest DVD players require at least Win95.
In my opinion, DVD playback is a pain in the a$$ even under Win 95/98 (I used to have a DVD-playing win95 machine; on some days it played DVDs flawlessly, other days it gave me a BSOD and called it a day).

I'd just leave DVD playback to an XP box (or Mac, lol)

...lets face it W3.x is not an O/S par-se, it is a GUI for MS-DOS...

There is also an updated QCDROM DOS Driver for IDE/ATAPI Optical Drives which is recommended for newer PC's:
