Hi.. I live in Panama.... (sorry for my english)

ok...

I buy one Cnet external modem for one IBM PS/2 with 12 Mhz.

No drivers for Win31.. Ok--

I install it in Com1 (choose Standard Modem)

And it works fine and fast... fastest of my Celeron 440 MHz 128 MB and 56k internal modem.. Yes!!... External MOdem is fastest and simple to install...

Ok.. one thing about Browsers

I first install Internet Explorer 3.0 with dialer pack... (i use it for dialing to my ISP).. ok... Install IE 3.0 and the Dialer configuration detect the external modem. Not worry about drivers!! ;-)

Next i Install Opera 3.62......

and... to conect i.....
1. double click the dialer
2. close de ie30 (it open next dialer connect)
3. open Opera....

Very...... good

Yeah, thats right , you shouldnt have to use drivers for an external modem, just a dialer- trumpet winsock works too ( although the IE one's free)

Indeed, you dont need drivers for hardware modems in DOS/Windows 3.1x

Trumpet Winsock takes up fewer resources, which can be handy on a 386.
Version 2.0b is free for personal use and never expires.

In your case also make shure you have a 16550 com port otherwise you will get errors resulting in slower internet access....
