Hi I just installed wfw and need the drivers like display, audio etc for a Toshiba 100CT. I know there was a site that had these old drivers for 3.X but I can't remember what it is called. I tried to find it through the Toshiba main site but am getting nowhere. Also if there is a way to up the colors from whatever the basic install is for wfw up to I dunno 256 colors without the Toshiba display driver then that would be good if someone knows what I mean. It has been quite a while since I have used 3.x so I have vague memories.
Oh I installed Calmira but I think it is not set as an install because when I reboot it is not running unless I double click the icon in it's dir again. I have never used Calmira before but it seems good. Is it meant to be some sort of overlay thing? Because the traditional desktop is still there undernealth.
I know I am asking a lot in one post...sorry!

You're gonna have some trouble with this one...

That machine came with win95; the drivers are nearly all for win95. Sound drivers are here.

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/...

I can only recommend you use the spec sheet and try to dig up 3.x drivers for each indivual component.

You might try a search for NeoMagic NM2160 video drivers. The drivers on this page might work.

As for your Calmira shell, have you checked your System.ini file under the [Boot] section? There is a line for what shell to execute when Windows starts. The default is:
shell=PROGMAN.EXE
If that's what yours still says, then you need to edit it and change it to something like:
shell=<path>Calmira.exe
or whatever the executable which starts Calmira is called.

Oh I thought this machine came with win3.x. OK!That first link....the site is down. The 2nd one is about a Libretto and this is a Satellite model. There is a lot of info on the net about the Libretto but not much about the Satellite version. I know for sure that this is a satellite. The specs are lower than the Libretto and maybe that is why I knew that this machine was made for win3.x.
Um the 3rd link...I am not really clear which download I am supposed to get and why. Are these drivers for a similar machine? I am unclear about it and don't want to mess things up.

pyrolitic-Sorry it has been a long time since I used win3x. Can you tell me step by step how to get into the system.ini file and how to edit it? Thanks so much!

Satellite huh? OK, any other model numbers on the machine? Look on the bottom for any labels that will make for a better search.

Find all the info you can about anything installed like a Toshiba setup or info program, msd.exe, and so forth.

I am having some trouble with the display now so am not able to go into the video section to see if there is more info via msd.exe.

I finally found a chart of Toshiba notebooks and this is the info I have on this model:
110CS/CT Satellite bios 5.2 OS shipped win95/WFW pentium 100 RAM STD/MAX 8mb/40mb
video controller CTF65548
video ram 1mb
sound controller n/a
infrared n/a
hdd/std max 810mb/3.8gb
hd interface EIDE
hd max height 12.7mm

Going to do a search on some of this stuff and see if I have any success! Wish me luck *fingers crossed* lol

You might try the Toshiba-Canada website. I have better luck there for stuff for my old Satellite T2130CS (they seem to have a better archive on older systems):

http://www.toshiba.ca/web/products....

Or maybe even their FTP site:

OK, we've gone from "100CT" to "Satellite" and now a "Satellite 110CT".

I found this information in about 5 minutes. It's a little easier when we're on the same page.

http://support.toshiba.ca/support/d...

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/...

Second link is video driver and user manual.

Edit:

A little advice. When you find any info or drivers for this machine, save them all regardless of OS. The last install I did on a 110CS was 98Se and I only downloaded what I needed for that project. If I'd spent a half-hour extra, I would already have everything you needed on a CD.

Drivers and documentation for old stuff like this disappear at an alarming rate.

Ok my model is not on the Canada site and will check the ftp site more later but I had a quick look and it doesn't mention models that I can see.

SkipCox-It is all of those things I mentioned. My point was it is not a Libretto as someone mentioned. There seems to be more info on the net about the Libretto but this is not that!!!
There is nothing on the first link relavent to me that i can see.
That second link seems to be it!!! Wow thanks. I will give it a go later tonight!!!
Yes I eventually found all the old Toshiba stuff I had saved for some other old Toshiba models. I had 3 others years back and I will save this lot too. I know I saw a lot more on this model too years ago and it is all gone. Plus the models of Toshiba that I have saved!

Amen to that. Thankfully to getting broadband and some good FTP/downloading tools, "harvesting them" before they "die on the vine" has been significantly easier (though the entire Compaq site took over 6 days and almost 40 DVD-R's)...

Ouch that is a long time. Good on you for doing that.
I did think I should have done that when I saw that old Toshiba site years back. I had the thought but I was using dialup!
Now I should get to downloading those drivers and see what happens!

Geez there is a hardware issue maybe now. The system is unstable and i can't get anywhere. It get the MS Dos thing starting and almost straight away there is a display issue and when I press WIN to go into wfw somewhere around then the lights go out completely. I am not sure what to think except that it is possible that one of the programs I installed like Calmira or worldclock or winproof (i think it was called that) may have a virus with it because this machine was working well. Damn! Hard to remember the sequence of how things happened. I can't even get into the bios or run anything from dos. There is an error to do with the pcmcia card that I put in(Xircom dialup/etho combo) and that comes up everytime, during startup, from the moment I finished the install of wfw but I read somewhere that that was solveable. I reseated the hd as I said I would no difference. I did find out though that there is some charge in the battery as I accidentally turned it on without being plugged in and the machine started. So it is not the cable to the power point.
Any theories? I wish I had a spare little hd....I think I do have one but it is maybe 10 or 12 gig. If it fits into the bay?
Any ideas? Maybe I should do a video of what is happening and upload it because it is the same thing that happens everytime and I find it hard to describe or maybe I am missing something.

Make sure you didn't leave a floppy in the drive.

Can't you hold down the Esc key then turn on the machine to get into setup? Not sure why you want to get into setup (bios) though.

If it gets to the Starting MS-DOS message, tap F5 to bypass all start up files or F8 to run through Config.Sys and Autoexec.Bat

Answer N to anything that has to do with the Xircom network card or Network in general.

"...when I press WIN to go into wfw somewhere around then the lights go out completely."
Do you mean that you enter "WIN" at the DOS prompt and press enter? And then the display goes blank? Or does it briefly display the WfW splash screen and then go blank? If it's the latter then that would indicate that your loading an incorrect display driver.
I would seriously doubt you've gotten a virus from Calmira or Worldclock. I don't know about winproof because I don't know what it is. But, there isn't any virus activity towards DOS and Win3.1 anymore. Virus hackers don't get any buzz at screwing up old machines, they are out to get the current popular OSs. They want their "creation" to be in the news, there's no story about some old Win3.1 computer somewhere crashing.

No floppy is in the drive. Maybe I didn't explain properly. Gee I don't know really how to explain what is happening except there is flickering so there is something really wrong. So none of your suggestions are what is happening.
Yes I understand that about hackers but the person that gave me the link to this ftp site that I got winproof from said that it had been reported that there were problems sometimes. He had not experienced them but others had. It is ftp site. Winproof from what I can gather is something to do with winword. I thought that was what I was downloading/installing and then when I ran it it said that I needed winword blah blah blah.
So when I say I can't go any further as in the bios of anything that is it.
What I did to try and solve things last night is reinstall things. First I formatted, which was hard because the machine was flickering the whole time and then I rebooted to try and reinstall but....the rest I don't remember. It was not happening. I got tired and had to go to bed. I was spending wayyyyyyy too much time. I think I will wait until I can score another small hd so I can see if it is a hd problem or a display/monitor problem. Or maybe I should hook it up to this monitor? MMMMmmm that's an idea.

You don't have a software problem, what you described is a hardware problem. And I don't believe it has anything to do with the hard drive. What I would look for is loose or bad connections to the screen. And it may be some component like the backlight going bad, which wouldn't be good. That's a good idea to try to get an external monitor working with it. It might be a big help in figuring out what's wrong.

Yup I will try the monitor test. Odd that it started happening at a particular time though.

True true! Well it works well with the monitor so I will operate on the little machine probably tomorrow or the day after. I think I have some kind of technicians manual for one of the old Toshibas somewhere so that will help!
