I have an old pc 286,I just formated my hard disk to prepare it for dos 6.22 instal but...unfortunately I have all four disk together on cd like ISO image(I dont now how to instal cd). When I was copy all content from disk by floppy on c:\dos and start the setup the message appear - insert the first disk in b..etc.My problem is following - whish files belong on each disk -1/2/3/4 and where to find the complete list?
Like ISO's - I think DOS6.22 on CD may have been in the form of floppy disk images.
But you don't have that problem. The message for insert first disk, is from the setup/install program. Even if you copied all the proper files onto each floppy it is not going to work. This is an early primitive form of copy protection.
This questioned has been answered on this site many times previously.
It is ISO image,I was copy fundamental files manualy and I can boot from c: maybe if I instal adequate driver for cd device system will be in condition to instal dos 6,22 from cd?
It isn't going to make any difference if what you copied came off of your cd. If you have the floppy install it will still ask for the disk. You don't need the install prg to install. If you expand all the files all you will have is a few extra files in the dos partition. There is nothing in DOS that has to be created to run. autoexec.bat and config.sys are not needed to start, unless you need a special configuration to run. Then it can be created with any text editor. Or if you are a good typist using the command processor itself.
download a MS-DOS 6.22 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com. After you create partition(s) and format the hard drive, do a sys a: c: command to write the DOS boot files to the hard drive, then copy all your DOS programs to C:\DOS. if they are compressed files,(as in xcopy.ex_) you will have to use the DOS expand command.
And ppl say floppies are dead....:)
