A user called into the helpdesk today saying
someone has deleted her cd rom from her win 3.1
pc. how can the cd rom be restored or
reinstalled? She doesn't have the drivers

Here is one way to get there.
She could cross her fingers and hope that she has an IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM. If that is the case, doing an install with a generic CD-ROM driver should get things working.

register for username and password
After she has username and password->member login->UN, PW->search tab->enter ATAPI in the search box that says "Enter any keyword."
Pick one of the ATAPI driver downloads and install it.
If that doesn't work she will have to open her computer->get make and model number of CD-ROM drive->check to see if the Drive is attached to a soundcard. If that is the case she will have to download drivers for the soundcard also.
If there is an attached soundcard, she should download the drivers for that and install them.

Then, if the soundcard (if any) software didn't install the CD-ROM, she will have to look for the drivers of the CD-ROM.
