thought I could just get new copy of this file and put it on the floppy and then go on from their. Deleated file and put one on the floppy from my win 98 system. will this work ?
if not where do I get the appropriate file to replace one I deleated. Its gone. My fault should have mad a copy. tks

Did you install MSDOS 6.x prior to installing W3.x??

No I didn't. Saw the msg about installing dos 6.22. found my disk and intend to do this when my friend gets home tonight. the thing I am worried about now is the file (mouse.drv) that I deleated from my win 3.1 disk #2. I am worried that the one I replaced it with may not work.
the one I replaced it with was from my win 98 system. do you know where to get the appropriate file to replace it with?
thanks for the help!

What you need is the compressed file MOUSE.DR_ from Install Disk Two.

I have mailed you a copy.

P.S. x86 is correct by the way. You should always install MS-DOS onto your harddrive first.

Bill e-mailed me last night and indicated that MOUSE.DR_ was just what he wanted to replace a currupt copy on his Install Disk Two.

everyone is so helpfull I really do appreciate it!

Like to press my luck and ask how to make disk 1 of dos 6.22 set start. It does not start when it is in the floppy drive and we restart the computer. Do I need to format the drive first? If so could anyone tell me how to do same?
Thanks in advance

Disk One needs to be a bootdisk to auto-start Setup. You can download a MS-DOS 6.22 Bootdisk from my 'Bootdisk Project Page'

To use the 3 disk install disk set, the disk also need to be correctly labeled. i.e.

DISK      1 then 2 and 3.

Thats DISK followed by 6 spaces followd by 1 2 or 3 depending on disk number. (useing all 11 available spaces)

You use the DOS Label command to do this.

Howdy
I went to your Bootdisk Project Page and downloaded file mback622.exe which is labeled MS-DOS 6.22 Bootdisk
I unzipped the file and got MSD622BD.IMG.
Put this file on a zip disk and put it in the problem computer. Tryed to restart and nothing happened. What am I doing wrong?

Does it matter if I am running an older version of DOS ?
Also I noticed a files on the bootdisk Project page for an IBM. This is an IBM computer. Does this matter? Not knowing this stuff. when I was in school computer was a word very few could even spell.

Did you read the instructions on the Bootdisk Project page?

The IMG file needs to be expanded onto a clean 3.5" Disk by useing Disk Copy Fast for DOS or WinImage for Windows. DCF is available on that page. Or you can download WinImage from www.winimage.com

An IMG file creates a bootable DOS disk for older versions of DOS which cannot be saved as such within a ZIP file.

As for IBM PC-DOS v MS-DOS both are interchangeable but with minor differances. Later versions of PC-DOS offer more extras and PC-DOS 2000 is the only 100% Year2000 compatable version. But as long as you enter the year in 4 figure format during setup (2003 not 03)you should have no problems.
