Subject: DEC Pathworks V4.0 and WFW 3.11OS: WFW 3.11CPU/Ram: 486/66 16Mb |
Comment: I am attempting to link a PC with WFW 3.11 to a small network running on an old VAX/VMS server using Pathworks version 4.0, whilst also being able to connect to our main network with PC's running windows98 and XP. The networks.txt file suggests that it is possible to connect to both Pathworks and windows networks but doesn't explain how. I have found references to files that tell you how to do it, but the actual files themselves don't seem to exist anymore. I have played with different configurations and can get a connection to the VAX, but only when Netbeui and ndishlp.sys fail to load. Any pointers would be useful.

Reply: (edit)I do not know the answer but have you considered SAMBA, it is mainly aimed at Linux but as VAX were Unix based it may be something worth looking into, have you posted in the Unix Forum as well?? www.samba.org

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the advice, I am not familiar with SAMBA, but I will check it out. I will also post this problem in the Unix Forum, just in case anybody there remembers Pathworks v4.0.

Reply: (edit)HP support OpenVMS and Pathworks32, it may be worth exploring if the old VAX could be updated to OpenVMS as this would give you more scope for Networking. http://www.openvms.org

Reply: (edit)Since I know very little about VAX VMS systems and because this particular system performs quite an important role for our company, so far without any faults, the last thing I want to do is risk compromising it by attempting to make any changes directly to it. The reason that I want to set up a system to talk to both networks is simply that the two networks sit next to each other but that data needs to be transfered between them using floppies. I suspect that my problem lies somewhere with the IFSHLP.SYS file and wfw 3.11 32-bit file access system.
