Reply: (edit)Mikey, The cr-563-b CD-ROM drive runs off a soundcard / interface card. You have to find the specific software/drivers for your soundcard, which will most likely include the support for your CD-ROM drive. get the model number off your soundcard or interface card which your CD-ROM drive is attached to with a ribbon cable. Search for the drivers for your soundcard at; www.windrivers.com www.driverzone.com www.driverguide.com Good luck

Reply: (edit)Hi everyone: I have a 486 im trying to revive from the dust. It's needed quite a bit of work (a new HD and IDE interface...) but i finally got it running wfw 3.11 This one has one of those proprietary cr563b's (yuck, give me ATAPI anyday). anyways, whoever worked on this thing before, didnt know the difference, took out the soundcard or whatever interface used to be in there, and plugged the thing into one of the ide channels. I know the connectors look the same, but i cant guess why he even took out the card. Anyways, is there anyway to find an interface for this thing? Or should I chuck it into the trash and try to find an atapi? Thanks.

Reply: (edit)The cr-563 is a panasonic model used with Sound Blaster 8 bit boards as well as the Sound Blaster Pro, also there are some old sound cards that have multiple connectors for various proprietary cd-roms (usually Sony, Mitsumi, and Panasonic), but these are usually a pain to 1: get drivers, and 2: configure the jumpers and config.sys-autoexec.bat. Very satisfying when they work, though. Good Luck.
