CPU's for Win 3.1

My question is this, what processors can be used that have Windows 3.1 as an OS. I currently have a 386DX, and would like something a bit more. However, I prefer the Win 3.1 OS to Win 95 or 98.

Hi David W.L.: You could use anything above a 386, but finding older hardward designed for 3.1 will be one if the drawbacks. I would not use anything over a Pentium 1 (133mhz) CPU unless you are running muiltiple OSs, at some stage you will need to use a later OS if you intend to use later a version browser or software.

Fast as a bugger in Win3x. You can use much faster CPUs and a lot more memory for RAMdisk, if you wish. The only hold up is the new video cards that don't support DOS VESA\Win3x. I've foud the Expert@Work\Expert98 to be plenty fast with a refresh rate of 100hz at 800x600@16bits.

You couldn't run early versions of Windows 95 much above 350mcs without triggering a windows protection flag, but Windows 3.1 has no top limit. I have run it on a PIII 800.
