Hi there, I've recently resurected my old T2130cs laptop with a clean install of DR-DOS and Win3.1 and with alot of reading from this forum! So happy have I been with it, I decided to get a PCMCIA CD-Rom. However, when I boot up now DOS reports that EMM386 has invalid parameters, then to install emm386 in config.sys. The cd-rom however works! When I reverted to the previous config, I didn't get the error, but the cd-rom doesn't work (obviously as it's not mentioned in there).
The extra emm386 line that the cd installation has added is:
rem device=c:windows\emm386.exe
then it altered the original emm386 line to:
device:\windows\emm386.exe dpmi=off frame=none x=ce00-cfff
(((it added the x=cr00-cfff bit))).
I have tried a few things but really never used dos/win3.1 before, so dont know what I'm doing! Help and suggestions appreciated!

sorry, the second line should read:
device=c:windows\emm386.exe dpmi=off frame=none x=ce00-cfff
There's also a bit about the drive, but I dont think it's the problem.

There appaers to be a "\" missing from the line before windows.
You could try a later version of emm386 from a win9x machine as well.

Hi DOSser:
I think you need to check with CD-ROM maker about running device using DR-DOS, maybe it only works with MS-DOS OSs. I've never used DR-DOS, so just making a guess about config problem. There could also be a problem using DR-DOS with Win 3.1 with some devices, this is just a guess on my part. Maybe use the forum at this web site for better help.http://pysmatic.net/dr-dos/
Good luck.

After trying alot of things ((even managed to find Cardsoft!... not that it helped)), I finally gave in and went back to MS Dos 6.22.
Reinstalled windows, then set about adding the pcmcia cd-rom.
Absolutely no problems!
I've been comparing the new config to the old one, and it seems that the lines involving emm386 have been totally removed. It isn't mentioned in there anywhere. I added it in and it started showing errors ... so deleted it again.
Not sure if this is a good or bad thing.... but it all works, and boots to the C:\> in a few seconds!

Change the line:
device=c:windows\emm386.exe dpmi=off frame=none x=ce00-cfff
TO
DEVICE=C:\DRDOS\EMM386.exe dpmi=off frame=none x=ce00-cfff
You are trying to use M$ EMM386.exe wich is an emulator of expanded memory and provides UMBs, instead of the DR EMM386.exe that gives you access to Extended memory emulates Expanded memory and gives you a DPMI 0.9 interface, nothing wrong with DR DOS.
