Reply: (edit)Allen Valerie is telling you what to do. The problem you have is that your computer has some problem that is so bad that it is not able to display a message on the screen....Soooo your computer is screeming at you, and telling you what is wrong in CODE. And the only way to decifer the code is to ID you bios and trobble codes. The site that Valerie recommended has very usefull information that may lead you to the cause of the problem.... Good luck.. It ain't easy beening cheesy..

Reply: (edit)yeah, the order of the beeps tells you what's wrong...but, if you get absolutely nothing whatsoever on the monitor, it could be that the monitors not properly connected , or your video card either shook loose from the computer being roughly moved (quite likely) or the video card just up and died (very possible)...so try reseating the video card to make sure it's properly in there, as well as by pulling it out and putting it back in it can remove tarnish that might cause probs too..if you don't know which it is it's a perfect chance to learn...after all its easy to find as it's the card the monitor's plugged into..and remember to 1) unplug before you take off the cover! 2) discharge any static by touching something grounded 3)handle the cards by the edges as much as possible

Reply: (edit)It's swearing at you It's just nice enough to bleep it out before you here it. :-) Have you tried inserting any bootable diskettes? Have you added any new hardware lately? Try removing it if you have. And pay your CMOS a visit if you can, maybe it can give you some possible info. If all else fails, call a 5 year old that you know. :)

Reply: (edit)repetitive short beeps usaly mean 1 of 2 things, bad ram or bad v-card. Im asumeing you systems is quite old if your useing 3.1 so you may be a victum of chip creep, witch is caused by the rapid heating and cooling of chips and cards within a computer. reset the ram, and the V-card, that is, open the case and make sure that they are firmly pushed in, chip creep dose just that causes them to creep out of there slots. If that dosent work, eather your v card or ram is bad.
