compaq LTE 5100 deleted ? won't boot

backed up hard drive using interlink deleted
everything but dos and root files reloaded
software from a working contura400 overrote
data Tried to reboot says: install boot disk
p.s. my A drive is not working.

Ernie,
Command.com or other files may have been corrupted. Try entering Bios/CMOS by pressing the required keys example {ctrl +alt +S)
or DEL at startup /POST or the key mentioned at startup screen. Then look at page 1 and two for any discrepancies. On page 2 change start up drive from C:A: to A:C: the save change following save procedure on screen.
With Disk #1 in drive A: Install Good Luck!
