Switched on Computer with nothing but the laptop and the cable.
00640 KB OK
167-RTC Lost Power
162-System Options Not Set-(Run Setup)
Insert DIAGNOSTIC diskete in Drive A:(RESUME = "F1" KEY)
Nothing in drive, what to do? All resources available are the internet, and i have loads of floppies so... any ideas???

This machine is new to you?
'RTC lost power' = dead real time clock battery
'Insert DIAGNOSTIC diskete in Drive A:'
This machine predates CMOS - options are set by an external program on the setup/diagnostic disk
Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience

For the setup & diagnostic disk:

Download SP0308.zip and unpack to a 720k floppy then run the setup from the FDD (after replacing the CMOS battery)

T-R-A,
Last time I saw an LTE was late '96 and was surprised to see it then.
That was about the same time I saw my last 'luggable' ; 5" [?] green CRT; weighed about 28 lbs.

Having a Compaq Portable II still in service, I see one (luggable) every day...
Unfortunately, the battery won't last much longer, so I'll need to dig one up and maybe upgrade the hard drive as well while I'm at it...

I own an LTE 5300 which i use frequently running windows 98se. Pretty good laptop, 12.1" screen, though here in Australia its hard to get parts. I had to buy RAM for it from USA.

I have a Compaq Desakpro 486/33m that had a similar problem, I downloades the BIOS disks, and set it up, no problems. Is it an EISA computer, those are a little tricky, especialy Compaq ones (which is what mine is). Press F1 if when booting a white rectangular cursor appears in the upper right corner of the screen, the the CMOS setup is already on the harddisk, press F10 at that time to set it up.

>>>Press F1 if when booting a white rectangular cursor appears in the upper right corner of the screen, the the CMOS setup is already on the harddisk, press F10 at that time to set it up<<<
That holds true only if the machine has the original HDD or has had it's partition restored to HDD. Machines that have the drive replaced (at least initially) have to have the machine set up by floppy. If memory (and bookmarks) serve, the download is here:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/deskpro/us/download/7156.html
You'd need four (1.44MB) floppies to extract the files...

oops I didnt see that typo, I knew it was F10, sorry.
Customer: Do you have any mouse pads?
Salseman (pointing): Over there.
Customer: Great!, will they be comadible with my computer.

Hello T-R-A:
I try to repair my LTE 386s/20 - the CMOS Battery is changed, but the CMOS Setup doesn´t run as you described above (http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/obsolete_diagnostics.html) - Executing SP0308.exe writes File DAIGS80B._01 and QRST.exe to floppy. Executing QRST.exe requires a 720 Floppy (I don´t have). Who has an idea to repair my old Laptop.
After starting I read:
162-System Options Not Set (Run Setup)
Insert DIAGNOSRIC diskette in Drive A:
163-Time & Date Not Set
How can I enter the CMOS manually - what key I have to type ?regards from vienna

It may not be possible to set the BIOS manually.
Can you get a 720K floppy?

I bought a new CMOS battery. I downloaded the SP0308.zip into my documents, winzipped it then saved it onto a 720kb disk. When put onto lte 286 it says: "Invalid system disk" what can i do?
thanks

hogwarts:
You'll have to "make" a bootable 720K floppy from a 1.44 (cover the hole on the top right as you look from the back of the disk). I had the same problem with my PortableII until I figured that one out.liam8910:
The file you downloaded is a zipped image file and you need to extract (write) it to a floppy from your drive after you un-zip it...
