i recently got a compaq lte 286 for free but when i load it up it asks for a diagnostic disk so i put the disk in and it starts dos but that is as far as it goes, it wont load up.

There are two diagnostic/bios diskettes, go to this link and download this file, it is self extracting diskette images:

If you have this then you will need to look internally to ensure it is all connected, does it have a hard drive??
