Comment: Hallo, first I want to excuse me for my bad english. I need some help.
I just bought a Contura 410 laptop and started to config it as an cnc-controlling center. ms-dos 6.22 works fine, but win3.11 hangs up after loading ... there were no wrang msg. during installation - all fine. But after loading - it freezes, the mouse stays in the midle of the screen an can't move and no key does something ( Ctrl-Alt-Del ... nothing !!! ) Only the power supplay helps to restart.
I tried everything possible ( and some imposible things :-) All the drivers from Compaq www and so on ... nothing helps ...
I thing it has something to do with the pcmcia, but I'm not shure and I need the pcmcia for a lan card to transfer my data from my pc.
Do someone had the same problem ? Can it be that the win-disks are corupted withowt wrang-msg during installation ?
I'll be happy for each tip I recive ...

Reply: (edit)yep...it is your pc card...I had the same thing happen when i tried to install too new of a pc card to my 486 gateway lapper not sure of all the things you may want to try and do, other than try to reinstall your CardSoft package and see if that helps...I just formatted and installed an older pc card

it's me again. It can't be the PC-card ... withowt PC-card and with disabled PCMCIA - the same shed ! Wondows withowt anything - doesn't start. I tried to change almost every driver ... trackbal, VGA, keyboard ...
Nothing helps ...
Have no idea what's the problem.

Reply: (edit)I should have mentioned that SP0963 upgrades the video driver so you can have 800x600 instead of windows 640x480 standard. I like the tighter screen and the video handles it nicely in either large or small font.

Reply: (edit)Was going to surgest same as 'rickkeseley' as I used to have a Compaq Contura 430 with a display problem, but in my case it was the WD2482 driver I needed. But what I want to say is well done 'rickkeseley' for providing a link as well. The worst thing to my mind is to say try xyz.exe and not tell anyone where to find it! Sure 'we' know how to use search engines, and a good search will solve 40% of problems listed here. But not everyone knows what to do!! Hint, use a site search to see if the same problem has been posted before... I have spend a lot of time in mirc - such as linux help chanel and I have red a lot of newsgroups and so on ...
But !!! I have never had such a tip: go there ... download this ... installl that !!! rickkeseley - that really the best tip I'v ever had. Thanks a lot - this stupid 10k file made wonder with my machine :-)
I found on this www another stuff too - for example - I dont have bad sactors on my hdd any more. But !!! This with the bad sectors - this fixfat2.exe removes all the bad sectors, but I think some of the sectors he marked back as godd are really dameged ( or I could'nt explain stuff like : "can't write to drive c " )
Is there perhaps another "10k magic" that solves this problem ?
But I have to say that win 3.11 with all his *.sys and *.bat is really amazing - I had furgott how beautiful it was ... and now I start to hate my win2000 box :-) ( it's a litle bit boring - isn't it ? )

Sorry for the bad language - one thing is that my english is bad - and second that my keyboard has drunk more vodka-cola than the halft of the people in the world together :-) and I'm a little bit lazi to correct all the keyboard's mistakes.
