Is there a program that closes windows 3.1, runs a dos-program and then return to windows 3.1?

I want to run a Partition Magic 8.0, he doesn't like windows Emm386..

Just run the DOS version of PM8.

Use the recovery floppies.

PM is usually not used everyday. I use it maybe twice during the life of an install.

I already use the dos version - that's why it doesn't work: it isn't executed by dos, bu by windows

Have you tried the disks from a Win9x install?

Thats the only think I can think of. Otherwise your CPU and memory may be below the system requirements.

I've a pc with 1.2 GHz, 128 mb ram and everything works fine.

I've a dualboot now, with XP and 3.1. In 3.1 there a several icons like Norton Ghost and scandisk and stuff. I also want to execute the dos-version of PM 8.0 when I doubleclick an icon.

For W95 i had a program, called 'exitexec.exe'. If you made a shortcut like this: 'C:\programs\exitexec c:\programs\pmagic\pqmagic.exe' and you opened it, you will axit win and when you exit PM, win95 would restart. Is something like this possible in Win3.1? Isn't there a exitexec-like prgram?

you could try setting the PIF for PM to msDos mode, set the do not warn flag so it will exit windows, then just add the line win to the end of your batch file

hopefully this will the exit windows when you run PM the restart it when its finished

There's this for download on calmira.net

DOS-only program execution utility (4 KB)
Will drop out to the DOS prompt, run a program, and then start Windows again (useful for games etc.). The first parameter must be the full path of the program to run. The other parameters are passed to that program.
For example: ExitExec c:\dos\edit.com
c:\autoexec.bat. NOTE: This feature has been built in to Calmira II 3.0.
