Sorry to post again (I will help when I can). I am trying to figure out why my computer doesn't recognize CD-ROM. I did a fresh install of the OS but the computer does nothing when I insert a CD. The light on the CD drive blinks and that's it. Is there a program that needs to be installed on 3.11 to get it to work? Everything works, the floppy, the mouse, I looked on the original Recovery folders but not sure if it is in there.

Thanks!!!

In your config.sys put the CDROM driver as the last line.

Then in your autoexec put as the first line:

pause

and see what it says.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

CD-ROM DRIVER HELP

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

Hi Steve :)

Yes, those TI's are nice older lappies. When I first went onto eBay Canada back in 2000/2001, I would buy up many of the 386/486 laptops (mostly Toshibas) so I could tinker with them - if they broke, it wasn't an expensive lesson!

At any rate, I've had a few Toshibas display the same problem as you describe; unfortunately for me, it meant the CD drives were simply worn out, probably from constant use. You see, you should hear the drive "spin-up" shortly after you insert a CD - whether a driver is installed in windows or not. I'm assuming that it did not spin up since you didn't mention it?

Otherwise I'm way off base LOL!

James :)

That's not really a requirement - you *are* kind of expected to followup in your various posts - as stated by the site owner:

Users who post questions on Computing.Net should do their best to reply to the people who answered their post. This reply should let the people know whether or not the solution worked properly.

Sounds pretty reasonable, doesn't it?
