Joey:

Windows 3.1 is not an operating system. It is actually a shell, or a GUI (graphical user interface.) DOS is the actual operating system and Windows 3.1 sits on top of it. If that bootdisk that x86 recommended loads a generic IDE CDRom driver that works, then copy the CDRom lines from the autoexec.bat and config.sys of the floppy into the autoexec.bat and config.sys on your had drive. Also, copy over the CDRom device driver, then on those same lines that you copied over, change the path on those lines to reflect the path on your hard drive. There should be one line in each file to load the CDRom driver correctly. One of these lines will be easy to spot, the other will have MSCDEX somewhere in the line.

If you don't want to do that, than do an Internet search for oakcdrom.sys download that driver and use it. You should be able to find intructions on how to format the two lines also.

Joey,

Edit your config.sys file, and add the line:

devicehigh=drive:\directory\oakcdrom.sys /D:cd001

Then, edit your autoexec.bat, and add:

LH drive:\directory\MSCDEX.EXE /D:cd001 /L:D

The last D on the previous line, is the drive letter you want to assign to your cd drive. It can be anything between your last hard disk, and Z.

Reboot your computer, and that should do it. Good luck!
