I just installed MCS MusicRack 1.04 for Windows 3.1 under Virtual PC 5, and... it doesn't show the Mixing Console, or the CD Player. It, however, does show the MIDI Player and Digital Recorder. I'm running Windows for Workgroups 3.11 over DOS 6.22, am using the Sound Blaster 16 ISA drivers for Windows 3.11 direct from soundblaster.com, and am using the Oak Technology ATAPI CD-ROM driver, rev. D91XV352. And both the sound and CD drive work... here are how they are being loaded in
config.sys:DEVICEHIGH=C:\DOS\OAKCDROM.sys /D:mscd001
And in autoexec.bat:
SET SOUND=C:\SB16
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:1
LH C:\SB16\MIXERSET /P /Q
LH C:\DOS\MSCDEX.exe /D:mscd001 /l:ESince my copy of MCS MusicRack came with a multimedia kit I bought back in the early 90's, I figured I might try making my autoexec.bat and config.sys look more like the autoexec.bat and config.sys files on that computer. So, I tried adding /M:10 to the MSCDEX.exe line, and /P:300 to the OAKCDROM.SYS line. That didn't help, either, though, so I removed those lines.
I even have the [MCI] CD Audio driver installed under Windows, even though the documentation for MCS MusicRack 1.04 says it doesn't need it. So... I have no idea what's going on. Perhapes someone here would?
Or perhapes someone knows of a better CD player for Windows 3.1 than this one

I actually didn't know the media player in WFW 3.11 could play CD's... I'll check it out when I get home.

and... I was right. The media player in Windows for Workgroups 3.11 does not play CD Audio. If it does, it is an undocumented feature, that is mentioned nowhere in the help file.

wierd! that fixed it! Thanks! That might also make the media player play CD's, too! I'll check that out, later, though. However... I'm still not seeing the mixing console. And looking at the documentation, all the mixing console seems to be is some place where you can adjust the volume - why wouldn't I be able to see this!?
One other thing I noticed about the computer that it came with... it's sound card emulated both an Aria sound card, and a Sound Blaster 16 sound card - perhapes, could the Mixing Console require an Aria sound card? I don't see why it would, though, since what I've found on it makes it seem like a card primarily for MIDI's. And you can adjust volume on a Sound Blaster card!
