can't install generic svga drivers

Original Message

Subject: can't install generic svga drivers
OS: Windows XP
CPU/Ram: Athlon XP 1700+, 768MB DD
Comment:
I extracted the files from this generic SVGA driver package:

http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?500000024307

put them into a floppy disk, opened up Drivers in Control Panel, selected the add driver option (the first one), and browsed to my floppy drive, but it cannot detect the drivers on the disk.

I'm using Windows 3.11 Traditional Chinese version, MS-DOS 7.1, "VMware SVGA II" display card.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

There really is no such thing as a completely 'generic' svga driver.

To change a video driver in Win3xx, you go to 'setup' and select the device you wish to change (video), then choose 'have disk', then enter the driver location.

Included in the compressed, self extracting file is a 'readme.txt':

If you have a Video card other than what is listed below you may not want to use these drivers.

Displays supported by these selections include the following:

ATI VGA series, including
ATI VGA Wonder
ATI VGA Wonder Plus
ATI VGA Wonder 24XL

Cirrus Logic VGA (6420, 5420 series)

Oak Technology VGA (077 series)

Paradise VGA, including
Paradise VGA 1024
Paradise VGA Professional

Trident VGA (8900C series) *, including
Trident Impact

Tseng VGA (ET4000 series) **, including:
Boca VGA
Cardinal VGA
Diamond Speedstar series
Everex Viewpoint series
Metheus Premier VGA
Orchid Prodesigner II
Sigma VGA Legend
STB Powergraph

Video Seven VGA, including
Video Seven FastWrite
Video Seven 1024i
Video Seven VRAM
Video Seven VRAM II

Western Digital VGA

Is your display card listed? Possibly you need to consult the documentation for your "VMware SVGA II" display card emulation.

Confusion reigns
