Can't get mouse working

My mom bought a new mouse for her old 486. Win 3.1 has been recently reinstalled. Radio Shack told her the correct drivers should be already installed, but still can't get it to work. On bootup it tells us the mouse is installed. When I try to open the mouse folder in control panel it tells me no mouse is installed. Any ideas on how to fix this?

You need to setup mouse from within Windows. Run 'Windows Setup' from Program Manager and change mouse from NONE to type of mouse (or select Microsoft Mouse)
If you get into problems you can run SETUP from the C:\Windows prompt, Type SETUP and make changes from there.

The reason incidentally, is generally you have two mouse drivers running, the dos one , thats installed at boot, and the windows one. thats why you see it say the mose is installed and yet no mouse in windows. mick's solution should fix your prob, just thought youd like to know why....
