HELP I can no longer save files to disk. I have a 486DX66 with 24MB RAM & 850MB Hard Drive with over 400 MBs free. I have 506 files in C:\ and cannot save anymore.

I think you have hit the maximum limit of files in your Root Directory (C:\) This is 512 entries. This includes system files, normal files, and directories. You say that you have 506 files + 2 hiddern system files, and I would guess 4 directories.
To correct this copy a block of files onto a floppy disk (Any number more than say 10 unimportant text files) Delete same files from Root directory. Create new directory called say BIN Copy all files other than system files, autoexec.bat, config.sys ect. In future save files to directories not Root
By the way this problem (If thats what it is) afects ALL versions of DOS including Windows 95/98 MS-DOS 7
