Been trying to install a cd-rom. No idea of the manufacturer of the motherboard. It is a 486/DX. It uses a multi-i/o card for floppy and disk controller. I have tried replacing with 2 other controller cards, but I get some kind of conflict.
The problem is: When I plug up the CD drive, the system gets a HD Drive failure. I have tried al combinations of master, slave, and cable select jumpers. Same result. The Bios is AMI from 1992, cannot find any kind of upgrade. When I go into CMOS settings, it allows setup of a 2nd drive, and I have an old AT hard drive that works, my other non-AT hard drive is just ignored.
Please help if you can. Thanks, Francis

Does this motherboard have an IDE interface right plus the IDE interface on the I/O controller card OR is the I/O controller card the only interface?
What is the CD-ROM make/model?
What is the I/O card make/model?
Your motherboard can be identified by a string that usually shows up at the bottom of the screen while the computer boots up-its a long string of digits and letters and you have to boot up several times to get all the letters or download a small program, CTBIOS, to get some info about the computer including the BIOS string.

The first part of the above paragraph should have been more like;
Does this motherboard have an IDE interface
AND
does the I/O controller card contain the 2nd IDE interface of your computer?
OR
Does the I/O controller card contain the only IDE interface for the computer?
