I have been trying to learn as much about these models, but there appear to be many variations. I need to know now, can Windows 3.1 be installed on an IBM PS/2 30/286 8530-E01?? Windows 3.1 is what I ran on my old IBM, I remember playing Wolf 3D and Commander Keen, Xargon, etc.

Yes, but it runs in "Standard Mode", it won't run in "386 Enhanced Mode": http://support.microsoft.com/kb/79749 You would had to have played the games in DOS. Thanks for the info! I dont like using Dosbox however, I prefer to use the original machine in the same way I did oh so many years ago. I have a fun collection of machines and gaming systems. I even have an old PC with dual tape drives lol.
