Hi,

Maybe you already read it on my site, I'm planning to release a new version of Calmira XP. Something i'm working on is support for long filenames (thanks to alexanrs of Calmira LFN).

What I like to know:
- Do you use a version of Calmira XP at this moment?
- Are there any improvements/features you want to see?
- Do you think there's still enough intrest in Calmira/Windows 3.1(1) (it's 2005, Windows 3.1 is more than 10 years old)

What is version # so I know to look out for it? When is it gonna come out?

Also I would like to see a simple utility that changes the start menu banner without having to change your entire theme.

The version number will be 4.0.
When? I don't know

You can already change the start menu banner, just name your banner "banner.bmp" and place it in your Calmira-directory. Restart Calmira...

lol. of course not.
Vista has a complex HD 3D interface that requires like a 3ghz CPU and 2GB of RAM.
I doubt it would be possible to render that with Win 3.1 and a 486. :)

Releasing a new version of Calmira (standard, XP or LFN) is always great news!
Well, I'm currently using Calmira LFN (last stable version). I wanted to check out its support for long file names. However, after loading DOSLFN, the system was always halted and Win 3.1 refused to start! This, I suppose, is because I use the Greek version of Win 3.1. Perhaps it has something to do with incompatibilities regarding DOS codepage and Windows codepage, or else there's something in the Greek version of Windows 3.1 that DOSLFN simply doesn't like! This, mainly, is what I would like to see from a new version of Calmira XP: just to start on top of Greek Win 3.1 after DOSLFN (or any similar long filenames manager) is loaded...
I thik Alexanrs has done a great job with Calmira LFN. I believe that an English version of Win 3.1 loads normally and the user is able to see long filenames - well, I just hope this happens with the Greek version and Calmira, one day...
Something else I would like to see: an integrated option to change colour depth and screen resolution, just as this happens in Windows 95 (am I asking for too much??)
As for your last question: yes, I think there exists some interest in Win 3.1 nowadays. Limited, of course, and fading - however, for example, here in Greece there continue to be private enterprises and state organisations that still use DOS and Win3.1 applications. As for standalone users relying on Win 3.1 and Calmira for everyday purposes? Well, apart from me, I simply don't know...

Well yes there is still an interest, i use it Win 3.1 on my Sempron 2200+ right now, though i wish somone would right Nforce and GeForce drivers for 3.1 (One day maybe). But I use if really just to say i have it, im sorta nostalgic. Though it is not my main OS, that honor belongs to windws Vista build 5112.

@JChapoton

No, It's Calmira XP, otherwise it was called Calmira Vista ;-).
Also, I don't have enough information about Vista (except some screenshots).

@arisoue

Which version of DOSLFN are you using? Do you have to problem with V0.34 and V0.40?.
Maybe you should consider using the english version of Windows? (Calmira is also in english...). Because I'm using the code of Alexanrs for LFN I guess you'll have the same problem.

About that integrated option for changing resolution/colordepth that would be very difficult because it depends on what videocard/driver you have.

@plainandsimple

I took a quick look at that site, it seems to be a nice program, but I think you can't run Windows-programs. Is it multitask?
