I've built another 486 out of spare bits from scrapped ex-corporate throw-aways, and i'm asking everyone's opinion as to what is the bes internet browseer to use with 3.11, i was looking for one that was the most up to date with regards to displaying pages with script and proper colours (I can run the system at 256 colour) Netscape 4.08 sounds good but i'm intrested to if anyone knows of a better one. P.s. for paid win 3.11 antivirus with updates you can still buy from www.norman.com

well, the best browser PERIOD is opera. and i don't even like it. but the probabilities that they would have as much 'old support' as MS is ver high, so i'd have to say netscape is the best. trust me, with tabs (although i'm not sure if they have them implememnted, but they rock) and over-all non-new windows, it ROCKS.

For 311 Netscape 4.08 is the best by far, and probably it will always remain that way
as browsers aren't being developed for w31 anymore..i like opera too, but on 311
it's a bit crashy, and doesn't do redirection of pages well (something more and
more sites are doing)..
NS408 still renders the vast majority of pages out there, but its security certificates
are mostly starting to expire, making it harder to access sites. As it stands now it's
no longer possible to access online banking etc. almost anywhere with *any* w31
browser...
Considering this, plus the 32 meg ram limit, it might not be such a bad idea to go for
netscape 3.04 instead..although in the past 408 had a definite lead over it re
accessing sites and rendering pages, the gap is slowly closing, and 304 is much
faster and uses less memory, as well as being quite competent at accessing a fair
number of sites...quite frankly, its the first browser i boot up, only swithching to
opera or 408 (or even IE5) if NS304 cant do it, for whatever reason...if javascript is
on it'll crash it every time though, which can be annoying...408 handles JS much
better
