Hello; I tried to surrect my old 486DX2-66 with windows 3.11 and Dos 6.21 with double speed (2X) CD drive. As I had lost the CD drive once again I played with the Config.sys file which corrected the fault always previously. This time however the machine did not boot up fully and displayed the two messages; Bad or Missing C:\EMM386.exe Error in Config.Sys line 3. I tried to reboot with all my boot disk which worked previously but not any more. The same occors with every reboot. Thanking you for your attention.

Check your C;\DOs or C:\Windows DIRECTORIES (Folders are in Windows 9x!) and rename file location in Config.Sys to point to where you found it. BAD IDEA to move DOS files into the Root directory!

Thank you jim and pope for your replys but they do not solve my problem. The PC does not fully reboot; I do not get a full cursor to get into DOS for file management. Any other ideas ? Frank

Sounds suspiciously like a boot sector virius infection.
Create a clean boot disk from bootdisk.com. Make sure it is write protected. then reboot th 486 with this disk. See if you can access c:. If you can type fdisk/mbr.
