Subject: adding CD drive to Dos OS: dos 6.22CPU/Ram: 250mhz |
Comment: Hi, I have set up an old pc to run a CNC machine i just finished building, but i have been trying to get Dos to recognise the CD drive in it, it is a samsung drive, and i located software, which put the MSCDEX line in autoexec.bat and the other line in config.sys, when i boot up the PC, the driver info scrolls past, it finds the drive, even gives the firmware of the drive, but i have no D drive (or any other). win 3.1 or dos simply dont see it, even though it is picking it up when booting.. have i missed someting?

Reply: (edit)Is boot from a floppy? Try adding a drive letter to MSCDEX line: /L:D It would help if you posted those lines/files. Best

Reply: (edit)Can we assume it's jumpered correctly? Computers in the future may have only 1,000 vacuum tubes and perhaps only weigh 1 1/2 tons. - Popular Mechanics, 1949

Reply: (edit)As per #2, assign a drive letter. A put a PAUSE after the MSCDEX line to see what it's doing. M2 If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.
