First of all let me tell you, I have no clue what I'am doing. My problem is as follows. I bought a very cheap computer, and I would like to get it on the info superhighway. The computer is a 486sx33 32mb ram running window's for workgroups 3.11. When i acquired this relic it had a modem card already although a friend that worked at an ISP told me that it wasn't going to work because it's like joining the Indy 500 in a model T. So, I ignored him and attempted to dial into my ISP through the terminal. Press enter
username: then i typed it pressed enter
password: typed it pressed enter
Then it tells me my ip addy and does a bunch of this 3 u6i52g6t5896t257yr39203765948944851416%^%&^Y%#$@^&%&Y^*&(*I&$#*&^$(*&$
Just a bunch of garbled stuff encrypted bulls---, and it says no carrier.
So after trying just about everything to get the model T in the race, I gave up. I took a 56k ISA from one of my friends computers, with her permission of course, and stuck it in place of the small old model T ish modem. Clicking on the power I get error 1162 configuration error, I don't know what this is. ANYBODY KNOW? I call my "ever so patient" friend from an ISP. I tell him i read somewhere that win 3.11 doesn't need drivers for modems that you must configure it manually. He agreed, and said thats right. He told me to go and download ShivaİRemote. I found a download but it the installation program for it says that there is not a network driver detected. "WHAT DO I DO" I know I seen a network program group in the program manager last week because I was playing with it, but now "IT IS NOT THERE" "what happened to it?" I have no clue, probably screwed it up after trying to download that "suck ass pirated version of win 95 posted by noname" but anyway, I don't know where my network setup program thingy is or how to get it back. Or how o set up this modem and get rid of the pesky 1162 configuration error. Can anyone help?

you can not connect to the internet using 'terminal'. get ie5 16bit, it has its own dialer.

I fixed the error by fiddling with the jumper settings on the modem card. It was set to com2. I det it to com1, and now no error! Now I'm downloading IE5, hopefully I'll be up and running soon.
